Fall Leaf Collection

Township Leaf Collection Program

Every Fall, the Berkeley Heights Department of Public Works (DPW) picks up residents’ bagged leaves on a schedule, beginning in October and finishing by the end of December. The Township does not have a vacuum truck, which is why leaves must be bagged instead of simply raked into the road.

Effective immediately (November 21, 2023) until December 29, 2023, BH residents can dispose of bagged leaves at the DPW, located at 101 Berkeley Avenue, adjacent to Town Hall, Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 3 pm and during regular recycling days on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month between 9 am to noon. No grass will be accepted. No contractor and/or commercial vehicles will be permitted, with no exceptions.

In addition, effective as of November 21, 2023, Berkeley Heights residents can also dispose of brush during recycling events on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month between 9 am to noon at the DPW yard. No contractor and/or commercial vehicles will be permitted, with no exceptions.

Other Important Information

Leaves should be put curbside before the date your leaf pickup is scheduled in your section. We will be picking up each section twice during the leaf season. Please make every effort to stick to the posted schedule. There will be limited time to return to a section during unscheduled dates. Please put leaves in paper biodegradable bags neatly stacked curbside. Do not block catch basins or sidewalks. Please do not include anything other than leaves in the bags. Bags with anything other than leaves will be rejected and left for your disposal. Please do not stack leaf bags on your driveway since these will also be rejected. BHDPW will not go on your driveway to pick up leaf bags.

Fall leaf collection is underway; DPW does not pick up branches, brush, or yard waste in the Fall. Please clear the roadway and right of way of all yard waste, branches, etc. so drainage flows properly.

Please see more information on this year’s leaf program pickup via the Leaf Collection flyer (PDF).
