Union County Free Recycling Events in June, July & August

Union County Free Recycling Summer Program Dates

Mobile Paper Shredding Event

Union County will host a Mobile Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, June 29 at the Union County VoTech School (1776 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains) from 9am - 1pm or until the truck(s) are full. There will be a limit of four (4) bags or boxes of confidential documents per car.

Additional Dates

In July, Mobile Paper Shredding Events continue on Thursday, July 11 in Rahway River Park located off St. George's Avenue, and on Saturday, July 20 at the old Bristol Myers complex (1350 Liberty Ave, Hillside).

All events will run from 9am to 1pm or until the truck(s) are full.  There will be a limit of four (4) bags or boxes of confidential documents per car.  

Please DO NOT bring materials that are already shredded.

Household Hazardous Waste Event

Union County will host a household hazardous waste event on Saturday, August 3 from 9am to 2pm at Union County VoTech School (1776 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains).  Items for drop off include old pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based pains and deck stain. Car tires will be accepted at this event.   Latex pain (wall pain) is NOT ACCEPTED.  Please dry out the cans and discard with regular garbage.  

Scrap Metal Recycling

Union County's Scrap Metal Recycling program continues on Saturday, July 20.  There are two locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling: one in Cranford and one in Rahway.  Both locations will be open from 9am to 12pm.  Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture among other items.
