[ARCHIVED] Veterans Day Ceremony November 11

Veterans Day (1)

The Veterans Memorial Park Committee invites all residents to come together for the annual Berkeley Heights Veterans Day service, beginning promptly at 8:30 AM on Saturday, November 11th, at Veterans Memorial Park, located across the street from the Municipal Complex (29 Park Avenue).

“On Veterans Day, we pay tribute to all the brave men and women who donned the uniform and risked their lives to serve our country” said Mayor Angie Devanney. “I encourage all residents to join our veterans in thanking them for their courage and heroism.”

The ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park will feature an Honor Guard from VFW Post 5962, in addition to remarks from community leaders and clergy. Residents are advised to park across the street at the Municipal Complex. Following the program, a free breakfast will be provided inside the Municipal Complex at 9:00 AM, courtesy of the Berkeley Heights Rotary Club.

The Berkeley Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 5962 will conduct an additional ceremony at their Post, located at 15 Locust Drive, at 11:11 AM. All eligible residents are encouraged to join the VFW. More information on the VFW can be found here

Veterans Day honors all members of the Armed Forces who have served our country in uniform. It was originally known as Armistice Day, honoring the end of the First World War, and was renamed as Veterans Day by Act of Congress in 1954 to honor the service of all veterans. Additional information can be found on the website of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs at https://www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/

The Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park is organized by the Veterans Memorial Park Committee. The committee’s activities include annual plantings and restoration work at the Memorial in addition to promoting Veterans issues across the community.

The committee is actively seeking new members. Interested residents can apply online here. Please enter “Memorial Park Renewal Committee” on the line marked Board / Commission / Committee of Interest.
