U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, DEP Seeks Public Comment on Green Brook

As part of the scoping period described in the November 27, 2023 news alert below, The U.S Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) New York District (District) and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will be holding a series of public Scoping Meetings. The purpose of these meetings is to provide an opportunity for the public and agencies to learn more about the study and comment on the scope of the environmental analysis and impacts to be addressed in the Integrated General Reevaluation Report (GRRA)/National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document. November 27, 2023

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) New York District (District), in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), will be conducting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Scoping from 04 December 2023 through 19 January 2024 for the Green Brook Upper Basin General Reevaluation Study which is evaluating the feasibility of flood risk management measures along the Upper Basin of the Green Brook Watershed within the municipalities of Plainfield, North Plainfield, Watchung, Berkeley Heights, and Scotch Plains in Union and Somerset Counties, NJ.  

Enclosed are notices announcing the NEPA Scoping Period. Please feel free to share this notice with any interested party and post on your respective websites and/or social media platforms.

The purpose of the NEPA Scoping Period is to provide an opportunity for the public and agencies to comment on the scope of the environmental analysis to be addressed in the Integrated GRR/NEPA document, and to raise issues, concerns and ideas regarding potential impacts. In addition, the District requests any information on cultural and natural resources including plants, animals and wetland habitats. 

Fact sheets on the proposed alternatives and a NEPA Scoping Document that outlines the Civil Works Planning Process, study history, alternatives to be evaluated, and identification of key environmental resources are posted to the project webpage located at www.nan.usace.army.mil/GRR.

Public meetings will be held during the scoping period to provide an opportunity for the public to engage in the study process. Dates and locations for those meetings will be announced in the near future.
